Chair Mk 2: Garden furniture

I got bored and thought i'd repair this beautiful old chair with the only thing i had around which was some cable, also salvaged form the yard. Im thinking of keeping it outside- wood and plastic seem to make good garden furniture. Also featured in this blog is another great piece of design: the tube bench, created out of necessity it is pretty much everything that a bench (and possibly design) should be. Made out of what was lying around and simple as fuck: want a bigger bench, get a bigger tube. wire-chair-1.jpgwire-chair-2.jpgtube-chair-1.jpgtube-chair-2.jpg

Chair

At a [re]design interview i was given the book from their award winning exhibition 'sit-up' which was nice of them. It had loads of sweet sustainable chairs- everyone should check out grownup stool by Chris Cattle http://www.grown-furniture.co.uk/- but a piece by Lou Rota (http://www.lourota.com/) reminded me of the spare maps i had stashed and the polypropolene chairs which were hanging around outside. My Business Cards... finally

So thought i'd put some of my spare time to good use and learn to use my Adana: a small printing press with all the lead type trimmings- it's an awesome machine. Anyway, i thought i'd make some business cards and once i started i couldn't believe how long it took to typeset, print and crop them all. I was at it for nearly 2 days but now i know all my 20 fonts initmatley which is nice. The nice thing about hand printing every one is that you can vary the effect to create really layered typographic images. Business Card 1Business Card 2Business Card 3

Making More Stuff

I was on a roll this holiday. Me and my beautiful girfriend had a day together, little money and no transport- we decided to make a stuffed toy thing for our friend Frankie who's birthday it was that day. Went to a charity shop and got this awesome knitted jumper for a couple of quid and hacked it together with some pink fabric eyes and mouth and some cushion filler and 'Billy' was created.Billy

Making Stuff

So i guess this is a retrospective blog- just figured out how to use this thing- expect frequent posts i hope. Anyway i've had this one stored up for a couple of weeks now- it's some compost bins me and my dad made while i was back home- it was really good fun to just be doing something practical and real- uni makes it tricky sometimes to just get some wood and make.. i dunno a compost bin or whatever. It was good fun and satisfying. As was filling this massive raised bed that my dad thought would be a cool thing to have in the garden as a veggie patch. He called the guy who sells soil on the phone and gave him the dimensions and was surprised when 5 and a half tonnes of soil and gravel turned up. So we barralled 4 tonnes of soil into the vegtable patch and the gravel around it and then were dead the next day- good work out. Compost Bin Vegetable Patch
